Thousands still trapped in Tangail flood despite receding waters

Thousands of people remain trapped in the Tangail flood despite the river water starting to recede.

In the last 24 hours, the Jamuna, Jhenai, and Dhaleshwari rivers’s water have receded.

However, houses, markets, educational institutions, croplands, and other establishments in several upazilas of the district have been flooded.

Educational institutions affected by the floods have been closed.

According to the Tangail Water Development Board (WDB), the water level of the Jamuna River has decreased by 13cm at Jokarchar point and is flowing 79cm above the danger level.

The water level of the Dhaleshwari River has decreased by 13cm at Porabari point and is flowing 23cm above the danger level at Elasin point.

Meanwhile, the water levels of the Fatikjani and Bangshai rivers have increased but are still flowing below the danger level.
