The government has distributed cheques worth Tk1.64 crore as medical assistance among 328 patients suffering from various complicated diseases, including cancer, of the district from the Prime Minister’s Welfare Fund yesterday.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Mahbubul Alam handed over the cheques to the patients as the chief guest at a function held in the conference room of the DC office.
The event was organized by the district administration and district social service with Deputy Director of District Social Services Md Harun-or-Rashid in the chair.
District Awami League President Mahabub Ali Khan spoke at the event as the special guest.
A total of 328 patients suffering from cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, stroke, paralysis, congenital heart disease and thalassemia were provided medical assistance of an amount of Tk50,000 each.
Of the beneficiaries, some 123 patients were from the Sadar Upazila, 53 from Tungipara, 22 patients from Kotalipara, 63 patients from Kashiani, 39 patients from Muksudpur and 28 from Gopalganj Municipality.
