The Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has dismissed Shikdermallik Union Parishad Chairman Shahidul Islam Hawladar, accused of vandalizing a public Kali temple in Panchpara market of Shikdermallik union in Pirojpur Sadar upazila, and injuring religious sentiments.
This information was disclosed in a notification issued on Sunday, signed by Purabi Goldar, senior assistant secretary of the ministry.
According to the notification, Shahidul Islam Howlader has been dismissed from his post following the acceptance of the charge sheet against him by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Pirojpur and the recommendation of the deputy commissioner of Pirojpur.
PP Sardar Faruq Ahmed of Pirojpur District Judge Court said that a public Kali temple in Shikdermallik union was vandalized on July 7, 2018. Subhash Chandra Mistry filed a case in Pirojpur Sadar Police Station on October 7, 2018.
After the police investigation, UP Chairman Shahidul Islam Howladar and his associates were charged in court on May 5, 2023, under Sections 143, 447, 323, 325, 307, 295, 379, 427, 506, and 114 of the Penal Code.
PP Sardar Faruq Ahmed mentioned that the court later framed charges against Shahidul Islam. He was released on bail after spending some time in jail.
According to PP Sardar Faruq Ahmed, the incident caused intense anger within the local Hindu community.
