A human chain was organized on Tuesday to protest the assault of a Somoy Television correspondent allegedly by Jhenaidah West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDC) Executive Engineer Rashedul Islam Chowdhury.
Journalists, under the banner of Jhenaidah Press Club and Television Journalists’ Forum, organized the program at the Post Office intersection in Jhenaidah and demanded the trial of the official.
Journos protest attack on colleague by Pabna Zilla Parishad member The journalist, Lotus Rahman Sohag, was assaulted while collecting news about the irregularities of the executive engineer on Sunday. As per media reports, the WZPDC official took away the journalist's camera and vandalized it.
Apart from journalists, social activists and cultural personalities also took part in the program. They condemned the incident and urged the authorities to take immediate measures against the accused.
Later, they held a procession that toured the city before ending at the Press Club intersection.
