At least one person was killed and several others were injured when a Star Line Paribahan bus overturned on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the Fakirhat area of Faujdarhat in Sitakunda, Chittagong.
The incident took place around 9am on Saturday, trapping several passengers inside.
The deceased could not be identified yet, said Sitakunda Model police station Assistant Sub-Inspector Dipu Tripura.
The accident caused a complete halt in traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, resulting in heavy congestion on both sides of the road.
Sources reported that the bus was en route to Feni from the Barapole area of the city, carrying 20-25 passengers.
Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service Md Abdul Malek said that three fire service units were actively working to rescue the trapped passengers.
Several individuals have already been rescued and transported to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
Local witness MK Monir said the bus overturned after one of its wheels got punctured, injuring several passengers.
