Three prison guards suspended after death row convicts escape from Bogra jail

Three prison guards were suspended and show-cause notices were issued to two others on Wednesday following the escape of four death row convicts from Bogra District Jail.

Jail Superintendent Anwar Hossain made this decision immediately after the incident.

A separate committee formed by the district administration and the DIG of Prisons will begin the investigation on Thursday. Official sources at Bogra District Jail confirmed the information.

According to the sources, Chief Jailer Dulal Hossain, Jailer Abdul Matin, and Jailer Ariful Islam have been temporarily suspended, and a departmental case has been filed against them. Additionally, show-cause notices have been issued to Jailer Faridul Islam and Jailer Hossainuzzaman.

A six-member committee formed by the Bogra deputy commissioner and a three-member committee headed by Additional Inspector General of Prisons Sheikh Sujaur Rahman Suja will start the investigation on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Jail Superintendent Anwar Hossain and Jailer Faridul Islam Rubel of Bogra District Jail could not be reached for comments.

Bogra District Administrator Saiful Islam confirmed that measures have been taken in response to the incident. He noted that while he is aware of these actions, the matter falls under the jurisdiction of higher authorities in the Prisons Directorate.

Four death row convicts escaped from Bogra District Prison by making a hole in the roof on Wednesday. They were recaptured within an hour.
