After an eight-day closure for Eid-ul-Azha, import-export activities between Bangladesh and India have resumed through Hili land port in Dinajpur. Operations at the port have recommenced.
Trade restarted around 11:30am on Saturday when a truck loaded with green chillies entered Bangladesh from India.
Md Mostafizur Rahman, general secretary of the Hili Land Port Import-Export Group, said: “Import and export between the two countries were closed for eight days from June 14 to June 21 due to Eid-ul-Azha. Trade has resumed today (Saturday), and wholesalers are arriving from various parts of the country. Activity in the port area is picking up, although it will take another day or two for full operations to normalize.”
Sohrab Hossain, public relations officer of Hili Land Port, added: "After eight consecutive days of closure, import and export through the port started at 11:30am. All activities, including unloading goods from Indian trucks and loading goods within the port, have resumed."
Onion import resumes though Hili port as India lifts export banSheikh Ashraful, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hili Immigration Checkpost, said: "While import and export through the port were closed for Eid, the Hili Immigration Checkpost remained operational. It was business as usual for passport holders crossing between the two countries."
