GM Quader, the leader of the opposition in parliament and chairman of the Jatiya Party, has said people are generally not doing well and many are unable to offer animal sacrifices on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
"Everyone hoped that people in the country would wear new clothes and celebrate Eid with joy, but that situation does not exist now,” the politician told journalists on Monday, after performing Eid-ul-Azha prayers in Rangpur city.
He said most people in the country are facing financial difficulties and cannot properly participate in the festivities.
GM Quader added that the way the government is running the country is somewhat disappointing as poor people are still struggling with rising commodity prices.
He expressed hope that the government would step forward to rescue the people from this intolerable situation. The dream of a beautiful, equitable country where people would not suffer from injustice and oppression has yet to be realized, he added.
On the occasion of Eid, he extended greetings to the people of his constituency, Rangpur Sadar upazila, and the entire nation.
