A fire has burnt down a farm in Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur, killing at least 13 cows and over 3,500 chickens.

Locals suspect an electric short-circuit might have caused the blaze.

According to the Fire Service, the blaze originated at the farm of one Milon Munshi in the early hours on Wednesday.

Local people at first tried to extinguish the fire but failed. Later, they informed the Fire Service of the matter. The firefighters brought the blaze under control after half an hour.

However, 13 cattle and 3,500 chickens were burned in the fire. However, the Fire Service could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire.

Owner Milan Munshi said that he prepared the cows to be sold for sacrifice in this year’s Eid-ul-Azha.

Umedpur Union Parishad Chairman Md Nuruzzaman Munshi also confirmed the matter. He said an investigation will be carried out to find out whether there was any sabotage at the firm.
