An assistant presiding officer and two polling officers have been detained due to irregularities in voting during the upazila election in Pathorghata, Barguna.

The detainees are Zakir Hossain Khan, Jhumur Rani Biswas and Rabiul Karim.

An executive magistrate detained them at the Amtala Govt Primary School centre on Sunday.

Pathorghata Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Roknuzzaman Khan said polling workers did not provide a ballot for the position of chairman to a voter who had come to cast his vote.

Later, the voter reported the incident to higher authorities, and the truth came out through verification.

As a result, the three officials were detained. The Election Commission has been notified about the incident.

The three detainees will face further consequences in line with the commission's regulations, the UNO said.
