A joint team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) visited former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed’s Savanna Eco Resort and Natural Park in Gopalganj on Wednesday.

Park authorities restricted journalists from entering the establishment during the visit. Officials from the ACC’s Gopalganj and Madaripur offices spoke to the park authorities and visited various spots inside the park that has been set up on 1,400 bighas of land.

The ACC officials also said that the park was kept under special watch.

Earlier, the park authorities announced its closure on Monday, citing server complications. On Saturday, locals demonstrated in front of the park, demanding punishment of the former police chief for grabbing the land of the people.

Benazir built the eco resort in Bairagitola village of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila during his tenure as the chief of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from 2015 to 2020 and IGP from 2020 to 2022. Locals allege that this park was built on 1,400 bighas of land by intimidation, force and various tricks.
