Three people were killed and 10 others were injured as a 100-year-old tree was uprooted by a storm in Bagha upazila in Rajshahi on Tuesday night.
The accident took place at Rajar Mor area of Arani Union of Bagha Upazila around 8:30pm.
The deceased are Zakirul Islam, 35, son of deceased Biraj Uddin, Raju Ahmed Jalal, 40, son of deceased Murad Ali and Sentu, 30, son of late Hashem Ali. They are residents of Panchpara village.
Meanwhile, the injured are undergoing treatment at Bagha Health Complex.
Local UP member Jahangir Hossain said that the storm started suddenly around 8:30pm. At that time, a group of villagers took shelter at two shops under the tree.
At this time, a large tree fell on the shops during the storm, leaving two people dead on the spot and 11 people injured.
Sentu Ali was rescued as critically injured by a fire service team by cutting a tree branch.
Later, he was taken to Bagha Health Complex where he died around 11pm.
Rescue work is still going on, said Bagha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam, confirming the matter.
