Three fishermen who went missing while fishing in the Sundarbans were rescued alive after seven days by members of the Satkhira range Kobatak Forest Station.
On Saturday, they were rescued from the branches of a tree in the Nishinkhali Canal area of the Sundarbans.
The rescued fishermen are Saidur Rahman, Haydar Ali, 30, and Liton 30.
On May 25, the fishermen entered the Sundarbans with permission to fish from the Satkhira range Kobatak Forest Station. They went missing the next day after being caught in Cyclone Remal.
Mubarak Hossain, an officer at Kobatak Forest Station, told Dhaka Tribune: "The families of the fishermen reported them missing. After searching various places in the Sundarbans, they were found on the branches of a tree in the Nishinkhali Canal area. They had been there for the last seven days. In the evening, they returned to their respective families.”
After returning, Haydar Ali told Dhaka Tribune: “We were caught in the cyclone and our boat sank due to the waves. Somehow, by swimming, we reached the Sundarbans and took shelter on a large tree branch. The water in the Sundarbans has not receded yet. We survived these days by eating fruits from the forest. Today, the forest workers rescued us.”
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Khulna Range of West Sundarbans AZM Hasanur Rahman said: “The fishermen were rescued and handed over to their families.”
