4 Rajshahi Medical University officials suspended for corruption

Four officials of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) have been suspended on charges of irregularities and corruption.

They were suspended as per the decision of the 16th syndicate meeting of the university on Tuesday.

In addition to the suspensions, a four-member investigation committee has been formed to probe the allegations.

The suspended officials are Assistant College Inspector Nazmul Hossain, Section Officer Sharmin Akhter Noor, Deputy College Inspector Joha Mohammad Meher, and Consultant Riazat Hossain Ritu.

The inquiry committee is led by university syndicate member Omar Faruq Chowdhury. The other committee members include syndicate member and treasurer Professor Rustam Ali Ahmed, Professor Dr Sanaul Haque Miah, and Tanjimul Haque.

RMU's Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr AZM Moshtaque Hossain confirmed the suspensions, adding: "Four officials have been suspended due to various irregularities."

The officials were also given dismissal letters on Wednesday. The committee has been requested to expedite the investigation and submit a report.

According to RMU sources, Section Officer Sharmin Akhtar Noor and her husband, Section Officer Nazmul Haque, were suspended for allegedly engaging in corruption while being on leave without permission. Consultant Riazat Hossain Ritu was temporarily dismissed after being appointed a year before the acquisition of land, including tender bidding. Deputy College Inspector Joha Mohammad Meher has been suspended for involvement in various irregularities and corruption, having been appointed six times on a contract basis.
