Awami League leader hacked to death in Narsingdi, one injured

A former Union Parishad chairman and local Awami League leader was hacked to death by miscreants in Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Mahabubul Hasan Mahabub, 40, was the son of Amin Uddin from Bhagirathpur area of Meherpara Union and a two-time former chairman of Meherpara Union Parishad.

His accomplice, Syed Hasar Pappu, 38, was shot and injured while attempting to save him.

The incident occurred in front of Shahi Eidgah in Bhagirathpur under Madhabadi police station.

According to locals, Mahabub and several others were returning home from his office in Bhagirathpur at night when miscreants approached from the east, shot him, and then attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Pappu was shot while trying to intervene. Bystanders rushed them to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared Mahabub dead. Pappu was sent to Dhaka for better treatment.

Madhabadi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamruzzaman said that after receiving the information, police began investigating the murder and visited the scene.

The deceased's body was taken to Sadar Hospital, and the injured individual was sent to Dhaka for advanced medical care.
