Cyclone Remal: Flight operations suspended at Chittagong airport

  • Suspended for eight hours
  • Great danger signal 9 issued for Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar ports

Flight operation at the Chittagong airport has been suspended for eight hours as the cyclonic storm Remal now lies over Northwest Bay and the adjoining areas. 

All operations at the Shah Amanat International Airport were announced suspended from 12pm and will remain in effect till 8pm on Sunday.

The airport’s Public Relations Officer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil confirmed the matter. 

On Sunday morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department asked the Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar ports to hoist great danger signal no 9.

Meanwhile, Mongla and Payra ports have been asked to keep the great danger signal 10 hoisted. 

The coastal districts -- Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna, Bhola, and Patuakhali will also be under great danger signal number 10.

The met office published the forecast on its website on Sunday morning. 

Cyclone Remal has now intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.

The cyclone is predicted to make landfall on Sunday, affecting the coasts of Bangladesh and India’s West Bengal.
