A Barisal court on Thursday ordered the Bangladesh Police to take departmental action against Sub-Inspector Sheikh Farid for abuse of power in filing a drug case in Wazirpur Upazila of Barisal district.
At the same time, the court also acquitted the accused in the case, Saidur Rahman alias Nannu Khan, son of late Taleb Ali Khan of Paschim Narayanpur village of Wazirpur.
Barisal Joint Sessions Judge's Court of Judge Salma Akhtar announced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.
Sohail Rana, bench assistant of the court, confirmed the matter on Thursday.
The bench assistant said that on September 30, 2018, the police raided Nannu’s house in West Narayanpur around 12:30pm. SI Sheikh Farid detained Nannu Khan and seized 67 pieces of Yaba from the yard of the house. Later, a case was filed with the Wazirpur Police Station on October 1.
Investigation officer SI Kamal of the same police station submitted the charge sheet to the court against accused Nannu on December 7 of the same year.
But the judge acquitted Nannu after examining nine witnesses.
Bench Assistant Sohel further said the court order will be sent to the offices of Barisal district superintendent of police, the deputy inspector general and the inspector general of police.
