The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of the police arrested Mohin Uddin, 20, an active member of the banned militant organization Ansarullah Bangla Team.
He was arrested from the Belabo Thana area of Narsingdi on Wednesday night.
Director of Media and Awareness Wing of ATU Shireen Akhter Jahan disclosed this information on Thursday.
She said: “Mohin was arrested based on secret information. One mobile phone, two SIM cards, three extremist books and screenshots of two Facebook IDs were seized from him. Mohin and his other associates had been campaigning to promote militancy on behalf of the Ansarullah Bangla Team for a long time.
“They have been conducting various activities to establish the so-called caliphate state in Bangladesh through anti-state conspiracies,” she added.
She said that Mohin and his other accomplices were communicating with each other by creating various groups using social media to plan, train and prepare for sabotage and deterioration of the law-and-order situation in the country by propagating extremist ideology and creating terror.
Also, they have been contacting the interested parties regularly and urging them towards radicalization, she added.
This police officer also said that a case had been filed against Mohin under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Belabo police station.
