4 injured in clash over establishing supremacy in Shariatpur

At least four people were injured in a clash that broke out between the union chairman and his opponent's supporters establishing local supremacy in Shariatpur's Zajira.

The incident took place in Sarengkandi area of ​​Bilaspur Union of Zajira Upazila on Wednesday.

According to local sources, Quddus Bepari, current UP chairman of Bilaspur Union has a long-standing conflict with his electoral rival Jalil Madbar. There have been several clashes between the supporters of both sides.

A young man named Sajib Munshi was seriously injured in the clash between the two sides on Wednesday, March 27. Later he died while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Dhaka.

Based on that, people from both sides clashed again on Wednesday morning. At that time, they went down to the cropland and started throwing hand bombs at each other. The neighbourhood vibrated with the momentary sound of the bomb.

Four people were seriously injured in this incident. Later they were rescued and admitted to Jazira Upazila Health Complex.

Jalil Madbar said: "The supporters of Quddus Bepari prepare to attack our people by posting on Facebook. They broke the arms and legs of one of my supporters Shahabuddin Sareng on Wednesday morning. Later our people got the news and resisted them.

“They ransacked the houses of our people by spreading false rumors of a person's death. I am preparing to file a complaint at the police station in this regard,” he added.

Denying the allegations, UP Chairman Quddus Bapari said: "Jalil Madbar has hired people from other areas to kill our people.

“Later on, Wednesday morning, the clash started over a trivial incident. One of my men was seriously injured. He is under treatment in the hospital,” he added.

Shariatpur Naria Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Ahsan Habib said: "Several people were injured in the clash between the two sides based on the spread of dominance.

“Additional police are deployed at the scene. Currently, the situation is under control. Legal action will be taken in this incident,” he added.
