Heatwave: Farmer dies of heatstroke in Rajshahi

A farmer died of heatstroke while working at a maize field at Jamalpur village in Goalkandi union in Bagmara upazila on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Montu Hossain, 45, son of Moshlem Ali of the village.

The temperature was recorded at 40°C in the upazila on Monday. 

According to family members, Montu went out from home in the morning to work at his maize village.

When his wife went to the field around 12:30pm with a jug of water, she found her husband unconscious and started to scream.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed in and took him to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Dr Abdul Bari, physician of Bhabaniganj clinic, said that the farmer was brought dead.

Talking to relatives and hearing symptoms, it seems that he died of heat stroke.

Sajeda Begum, the wife of the deceased, said that her husband died due to intense heat. There was no previous disease.

Severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jessore, Chuadanga and Kushtia, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). 

Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rangpur and Barisal divisions and the rest parts of Rajshahi and Khluna divisions and the districts of Mymensingh, Moulvibazar and Rangamati and it may spread.
