The 115th edition of Chittagong's traditional wrestling competition, popularly known as “Jabbar er Boli Khela”, will commence at its permanent venue, the Laldighi Maidan, on April 25.

Vice president of the fair committee Chowdhury Farid confirmed the information on Thursday.

He said that on the occasion of the 115th Jabbar er Boli Khela, there will be a three-day Boishakhi fair on April 24, 25 and 26. On this occasion, trophy and jersey unveiling and press conference will be held at the city corporation's library building near Laldighi at 5pm on Friday.

Councillor Jaharlal Hazari, president of the Abdul Jabbar Memorial Wrestling Competition and the Boisakhi Mela Committee, said: “After the start of this fair in 1909, it has never stopped. However, the 111th and 112th edition of the fair was cancelled due to the Covid epidemic two years ago. Chittagong's traditional Jabbar er Boli Khela will begin next Thursday (April 25) at the traditional Laldighi Maidan. A day before, those who want to participate in the competition will stay in Chittagong.”

Boli Khela was introduced in the early 20th century by Abdul Jabbar Saodagar, a local trader. He wanted to prepare the youths to fight the British through the sport.

The traditional form of wrestling was named after Jabbar. The first competition was held in 1909.
