Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four people, including one of the masterminds of the murder of forest department beat officer Md Sajjaduzzaman, in separate drives in Ukhiya and Sitakunda upazilas in Cox's Bazar.
A foreign pistol and a locally-made revolver were seized from them.
RAB arrested them in raids in Sitakunda and Ukhiya of Chittagong on Monday night.
Lieutenant Colonel HM Sazzad Hossain, commanding officer of RAB-15, said this at a press briefing at RAB-15 Cox's Bazar office on Tuesday.
On the basis of secret information, a team of RAB-15 was able to arrest the mastermind of the murder Md Kamal from Sitakunda, and Helal, an accomplice of the murder, from Ukhiya.
During primary interrogation, they told RAB that forest officer Sajjaduzzaman was run over by a dumper truck for conducting five consecutive drives against hill smugglers, seizing and suing several dumper trucks.
On March 31, the Forest Department official was killed while trying to apprehend robbers who were trying to steal soil by truck from the hills of a forest reserve in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila.
