Police have arrested five youths for their involvement in the abduction and gang-rape of a married woman in Bagerhat on Friday night.
The arrestees, aged 18-19, hail from Soroshpur village under Mollahat Upazila. Three others involved in the incident are on the run.
The five were sent to jail through a court.
Police arrested them after the survivor filed a case on Saturday morning. She was later admitted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for examination.
According to Officer-in-Charge SM Ashraful Alam, the woman, who hails from Fakirhat, went to Mollahat along with her husband and child to perform dance at a wedding event.
After the end of the program around midnight, the arrestees and their separated her from her husband and the child and took her to a secluded place in Ghatbila village where eight youths raped her in turns.
At one point, patrol police on motorcycles stopped there and detained four of the rapists. Another rapist was arrested in the morning.
