Fire erupts at S Alam's oil mill in Chittagong

A fire broke out at an edible oil mill owned by S Alam Group in the Mojjartak area in Chittagong on Friday morning.

Nine units of the fire service brought the fire under control in an hour's effort.

The fire service received information about the fire at 8:25am on Friday.

The fire came under control at 9:20am.

According to the fire service, nine units of Karnaphuli, Lamarbazar, Chandanpura and Agrabad fire services reached the spot quickly and started working, so it was possible to bring the fire under control.

Deputy Assistant Director of Chittagong Region of Fire Service, Abdur Razzak said: “The fire is now fully extinguished. Oil was stored next to the burning building. If the fire had spread there, it could not have been brought under control."

It was not immediately known how the fire broke out in the factory. It was not possible to know the details of the damage.

On March 4, a fire broke out in the warehouse of S Alam Group's sugar refinery on the banks of the Karnaphuli River. After a few days of efforts, it was possible to put out the fire in the warehouse.
