Seamless Eid travels for south-bound travellers

  • No long waits at ferry terminals
  • No major traffic congestion on Dhaka-Aricha highway

Homebound travellers heading towards the southern and southwestern regions of Bangladesh are returning home without enduring the usual hardships that they face during Eid journeys. 

They are traveling through Paturia and Aricha terminals without experiencing prolonged waiting times, unlike in previous years.

Meanwhile, no traffic congestion was reported on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj. 

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office, there has been no surge in passenger and vehicle pressure at Paturia Ghat area since Friday.

Travellers had to only wait 10-15 minutes before they could board a ferry to cross the Padma River.

A total of 17 ferries on the Paturia-Daulatdia route and five ferries on the Aricha-Kazirhat route are carrying passengers and vehicles currently.

According to BIWTA sources, 22 launches are carrying passengers on the Paturia-Daulatdia route and 10 launches on the Aricha-Kazirhat route. Apart from launches, passengers are also crossing the Aricha-Kazirhat route by 41 speed boats.

Abdullah Al Mamun, a worker at a garment factory in Gazipur on the outskirts of Dhaka, is going to his village home in Kushtia with his wife and two children. 

He mentioned that they did not encounter any significant road congestion and did not have to endure lengthy waits at the ferry terminals.

Shah Md Khaled Newaz, deputy general manager (commercial) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office, said the pressure of passengers and vehicles on the Paturia-Daulatdia route has decreased since the opening of the Padma Bridge.

Homebound passengers and vehicles are crossing the waterways this Eid without any major suffering, he added.
