The family of fertilizer trader Nowsher Ali, allegedly killed by an Awami League leader, convened a press conference demanding the trial of the accused.

The press briefing was held at the Jamalpur Press Club on Monday afternoon.

Md Abdullah, the deceased Nowsher Ali's son, said that on the evening of April 25, 2020, miscreants led by Raihan Rahmatullah Rimu, the joint general secretary of Madarganj upazila Awami League, along with Raihan Kibria Rimon, Abul Hossain, and Rabiul Islam, attacked him and his father at Thakurbari intersection of Balijuri Bazar in Madarganj upazila, purportedly due to a longstanding feud over land.

Nowsher Ali sustained severe injuries in the altercation and later succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Following the incident, the deceased's son Md Abdullah filed a case in court.

While Raihan Kibria Rimon, one of the accused, was initially arrested, he was later granted bail by the High Court and has since been allegedly threatening the victim's family members with various forms of harm.

In light of these developments, the family members have appealed to the prime minister and home minister for security and have demanded the trial and punishment of all the accused individuals, including Awami League leader Raihan Rahmatullah Rimu, implicated in the murder.

During the press conference, Nowsher Ali's wife, Kamala Begum, daughter Yasmin Nahar Laila, and son Abdullah addressed the attendees, with journalists from both print and electronic media outlets of the district in attendance.
