Despite the surge in vehicles on the Sirajganj highway due to people returning to their hometowns ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, there have been no reports of traffic congestion so far.

The influx of vehicles on the west side of Bangabandhu Bridge, the gateway to the Northern part of Bangladesh, has been steadily increasing since Thursday night, with expectations of further rise in the coming days.

MA Wadud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatikumrul Highway police station in Sirajganj, said: “We have already started work on the highway. There is no fear of traffic congestion during this Eid journey as four lanes of the highway from the west side of Bangabandhu Bridge to Hatikumrul Chattar have been opened. We are trying our best to ensure the safety and security of passengers and public transport.”

Meanwhile, additional inspector general of police and Highway Police chief Shahabuddin Khan visited Sirajganj and Tangail highways on Thursday afternoon.

Rajshahi Range DIG Anisur Rahman visited the highway in Sirajganj the day before.
