Bogra market fire doused after 2.5 hours

  • Eight firefighting units doused the fire
  • ‘Investigation is ongoing’

A fire that broke at the Marina Nodi Bangla Complex, a multi-storey commercial shopping centre in Bogura on Tuesday, was brought under control after two and half hours. 

On information, eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. 

Bogura Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Manzil Haque said: “A warehouse and around four or five shops on the sixth floor of the market were partially burned. Eight units managed to control the fire after approximately two and a half hours of effort.”

The investigation into the fire's cause and damage is ongoing. More details will be shared after the investigation is complete, he said.

Eyewitnesses reported that around 1:25pm on Tuesday, smoke was seen on the sixth floor of the multi-storey commercial building, Marina Nodi Bangla Complex, located near Sathmatha at MA Khan Lane in the city.

Later, it was observed that smoke was coming from a medicine shop warehouse. Upon receiving the news, four units from the Bogura fire service started to extinguish the fire. Later, another four units from different upazilas joined them. 

Fire service personnel and police began evacuating people from the market and started working to extinguish the fire. After about two and a half hours of effort, the fire was controlled by around 3:30pm.
