Tangail Awami League leader Golam Kibria alias Boro Moni, sued for raping a college girl in Dhaka on Friday, has been relieved of his post at the governing body of Lokman Fakir Mohila Degree College in Bhuapur.

Boro Moni, also the elder brother of ruling party MP Tanvir Hasan alias Chhoto Moni, was recently appointed the president of the governing body.

The National University made the announcement through a press release on Monday. Ataur Rahman, director of public relations of the university, signed the press release.

Golam Rabbani Ratan, acting principal of the institution, confirmed the matter in the afternoon.

The local Upazila Nirbahi Officer will replace Boro Moni until further notice, the release added.

According to sources, the post was given to Boro Moni following requests by MP Chhoto Moni. The appointment gave rise to huge criticism as Boro Moni was already sued in a rape case filed in 2023.

Just two weeks after his appointment on Saturday, Boro Moni was sued in another rape case by a college girl in the capital’s Turag police station.

The ruling party leader has been on the run since then.

The victim filed the case under the Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act against him.

According to the case statement, the accused, vice president of Tangail city Awami League, took the girl to his flat in Priyanka City Residential Area in Uttara and raped her at gunpoint.
