At least 15 skeletons were stolen from a graveyard in Bera upazila in Pabna district.

The incident took place at Notun Bazar Graveyard in Aminpur on Tuesday night.

Locals came to know about the matter in the morning, and since then, family members of the deceased whose skeletons were stolen have been flocking to the cemetery.

At one stage, they brought out a procession demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.

Masud Rana, a relative of one of the stolen bodies, said: "It is surprising to think about it. The theft of skeletons from this cemetery along the highway is not a common occurrence. We demand that the police immediately unearth the incident and take legal action against the culprits.”

Another relative Zahid Hasan said: "We have seen that people are not safe while living in our country. Now I see that even if people die, there is no safety for the dead.”

Confirming the matter, Aminpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harun-ur-Rashid said that miscreants dug a grave at some time in the night and stole the skeletons.

Investigation is underway, he added.
