Three people were killed while another sustained injury in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Pirojpur on Monday.
The deceased are Hasib Akon, 25, Nurul Islam Howladar, 68, and Masum Billah, 50.
The injured is Arif of Badura village of Sadar upazila in Pirojpur.
The incident took place around 9am near Mallikbari on Parerhat-Pirojpur road of Sadar upazila in the district.
Two people died on the spot while another one on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Pirojpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashikuzzaman confirmed the information.
According to witness Totamia Howladar, a local businessman, one motorcycle was traveling from Pirojpur to Parerhat under Shankarpasha Union, while the other was heading from Indurkani to Pirojpur. As they reached Mallikbari area, they collided head-on while attempting to give way to a pedestrian.
Local residents rushed to the scene and transported the four riders to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital. Two were pronounced dead upon arrival, while the other two suffered severe injuries. Among the injured, Nurul Islam and Arif were transferred to Khulna Medical Hospital for advanced treatment, but Nurul Islam succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Dr Swagat Halder, the attending physician at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, confirmed the arrival of the victims.
OC Ashikuzzaman mentioned that law enforcement officials visited the scene following the incident, and appropriate legal action will be taken in connection with the accident.
