Bangladesh Railway authorities started a recovery mission on Sunday night following the derailment of the Bijoy Express train approximately six hours earlier at Tejer Bazar in Nangalkot upazila of Comilla.
The derailment, involving nine coaches, severed rail connections between Chittagong, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chandpur and caused damage to at least 500 meters of railway track.
Railway officials later attributed the accident to the railway line's deformation under extreme heat conditions.
Thirty injured people were discharged after receiving first aid.
Hasan Chowdhury, superintendent of Chittagong Railway Police, said arrangements had been made for the passengers of the train to return home safely.
He expressed optimism about concluding the recovery operations soon but refrained from specifying an exact timeline.
