The roof of a 50-bed upazila health complex in Patuakhali's Rangabali has collapsed during welding work.
The incident took place at around 7pm on Thursday.
Locals said the roof casting work of the 50-bed Rangabali Upazila Health Complex building started on Thursday morning. In the evening, the front part of the roof collapsed.
They claimed that the incident occurred due to poor quality construction materials and irregularities in the work.
Rangabali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman said a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
Necessary action will be taken after receiving the investigation report, he added.
Rangabali upazila was formed in 2012 after separation from Galachipa. The island has a population of over 200,000.
However, there is no hospital or health complex in the area.
Later, in July 2023, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) took the initiative to build the health complex.
Prime Construction, owned by Patuakhali Zila Parishad Chairman Hafizur Rahman, got the construction work of the health complex.
The construction cost of the 10,000 square feet building has been estimated at Tk22 crore.
