At least 30 people, including policemen, were injured in clashes between multiple groups over gambling in Birashar village of Natai (north) union, Brahmanbaria on Tuesday.
At least 10 houses were torched while 30 houses looted and vandalized during the clashes.
Additional members of police from Sadar police station and Police Lines reached the spot and tried to bring the situation under control.
Police said that around 1am on Sunday, there was an argument between Alamin, a member of the Babul Mia and Kashem Master group, and Nurullah and Sujan, members of the Dulal Ansari and Taj Mohammad Yasin group of the West Para area of Birashar. Later there was a fight between them.
On Monday morning, a chase and counter-chase took place between the two groups.
Both groups clashed with sharp locally made weapons as well as revolvers and crude bombs that lasted for about two and a half hours.
Affected family members Hosna, Morjina and Naima demanded justice for the attackers.
Local public representatives including Natai (north) Union Parishad Chairman Md Abu Saeed and Natai North union Awami League President Abul Kashem rushed to the spot.
Chairman Md Abu Saeed said: "Clashes started between several groups over gambling. Yesterday we tried to resolve the matter locally, but failed. Many people including the police were injured in clashes.”
Four policemen including Inspector (Operation) of Brahmanbaria Sadar police station Sohail and at least 30 people from both sides were injured in the attack of the rioters.
Brahmanbaria (Sadar Circle) Additional Superintendent of Police Billal Hossain said they reached the spot after receiving the news and tried to bring the conflict under control. Police seized five rounds of bullets and a foreign pistol from the spot.
