Student shot by teacher: Probe body visits Sirajganj college

A three-member investigation team formed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) visited Sirajganj’s Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College to investigate the incident of shooting of a student by a teacher.

They came to Sirajganj College from Dhaka around 11am on Tuesday and began the investigation.

Confirming the matter, Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College Principal Amirul Hossain Chowdhury said that a three-member investigation committee has been convened by the Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) Dr Baizid Khoorshid Riaz.

The other two members of the committee are Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) Director (Medical Education) Prof Dr Md Mohiuddin Matubbar and Deputy Secretary of Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Mohammad Mohsin Uddin.

Prior to this, Principal Amirul Hossain also said that an investigation committee was formed by an office order signed by health ministry Deputy Secretary Dur-Ray Shahwaz on Monday night.

Arafat Abir Tamal, a third-year student of Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College in Sirajganj was shot by Dr Raihan Sharif, a teacher of the college on Monday afternoon.

Students protested for the accused teacher's trial in this incident.

Later in the evening, police arrested him and took him to the police station. A pistol was recovered from him at that time.
