Rail communication between Tangail and Dhaka has been restored after four hours of disruption.
A rescue train from Dhaka managed to remove the train at around 11:30am.
Earlier, at around 7:30am, the rail communication between Dhaka and Tangail was suspended after a commuter train’s engine failed.
The incident took place at Sonalia village in Basail upazila.
Ali Akbar, in-charge of Gharinda railway police in Tangail, said the local train left Gharinda Railway Station for Dhaka at 7:08am. When the train reached Sonalia village, the engine failed.
On November 16, 2023, this commuter train was set on fire at Gharinda railway station. Later, the train was repaired but the engine malfunctions at times, he added.
The train driver, Mamunur Rashid, said that the train including the failed engine is being taken to Tangail Railway Station.
