Transport workers have suspended the bus service on Bandarban-Thanchi road due to safety concerns as a local armed terrorist gang demanded extortion.
The suspension of the bus service caused immense suffering to general passengers and tourists.
According to the transport workers, a few days ago the terrorist gang demanded an extortion of Tk5 lakh from the bus owners on Thanchi road.
Later, the bus owners took some time from them. But the members of the gang were threatening as the demanded money was not paid.
Therefore, the transport workers stopped public transport on this road due to safety reasons.
General Secretary of Bandarban Bus Owners Association Md Alam said that due to security reasons, the transport workers stopped bus movement on Thanchi Road this morning.
The matter has been informed to the local administration.
The bus movement will be normalized according to their decision, said Md Alam.
The transport workers did not reveal the names of those who demanded the extortion.
In this regard, Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mamun said that the transport workers have suspended the bus movement on Thanchi road due to extortion demanded by a terrorist gang.
