A policeman was killed in a bus accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Tongi of Gazipur on Friday morning while he was heading to Tongi for Bishwa Ijtema duty.
The deceased was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Hasan, Manikganj district court.
Another policeman was injured in the accident.
The injured is SI Amir Hamza of the police control room of Manikganj district police.
The accident took place in the Millgate area of Tongi East police station around 6:30am on Friday.
Tongi East police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mustafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.
While ASI Hasan was on his way to Ijtema duty riding on a motorcycle, a Balaka Paribahan bus hit him from behind, leaving him critically injured.
Being rescued, he was taken to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital.
As his condition was critical, he was referred to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) also known as Dhaka Pangu Hospital, where ASI Hasan succumbed to his injuries, said the OC.
“Legal action will be taken against the bus driver after an investigation into the incident,” the OC added.
