Law enforcers have seized 8.4kg of heroin from a farmhouse in Godagari Upazila under Rajshahi.
Saifur Rahman, superintendent of Rajshahi police, said at a press conference Sunday that the pack of heroin was hidden inside a grocery sack and was kept alongside a pile of sand.
Police conducted a raid in the farmhouse on Saturday night around 11pm on a tip-off and seized the pack, which is worth Tk8.4 crore. Sensing their presence, the owner and the caretaker of the farmhouse fled the scene. Faridul Islam and his caretaker, Sohel Rana, escaped the cops by climbing the boundary wall of the farmhouse, but the law enforcers gave them a chase.
The SP said the owner had brought the pack of heroin from neighbouring India. He was planning to smuggle the drug to different parts of the country.
A case has been filed against the duo with the local police station, he added.
The police official said that the duo are listed as drug peddlers, and there are several cases filed against them with different police stations. They were caught before, but both managed to get out on bail, Saifur Rahman added.
Police are trying to detain them, he further said.
