The temperature in Rangpur dropped to 7.5°C on Sunday, but educational institutions remained open despite the shivering cold conditions.
An allegation has also been raised that the students are being forced to come to school at 7:30am. The parents have their anger in this regard.
In this regard, an official of the divisional office of the Directorate of Primary Education, wishing anonymity, said that earlier on January 23, all primary schools in the Rangpur division were closed, including madrasas and kindergartens.
The academic activities were suspended only for two days.
The school authorities were again instructed by the directorate to make a decision regarding the opening of the schools, but why they are keeping it open will be monitored.
Meanwhile, the bone-chilling winter is persisting in the Rangpur region, as a result of which the life of common people has come to a complete standstill.
Rangpur Meteorological Office has informed that the minimum temperature of 5.5°C in Tetulia of Panchagarh district of Rangpur division on Sunday is the lowest temperature of this season.
On the other hand, the lowest temperature was recorded at 7.5°C in the Rangpur district.
Similarly, out of the eight districts of Rangpur division, the remaining six districts also recorded temperatures below 8°C.
Meanwhile, along with heavy cold wind, the intensity of fog has increased. As a result, vehicles are forced to move with headlights on even during the day.
In order to escape from the cold, ordinary people, including the poor, are trying to fight the cold by lighting fires in different parts of the city.
Meanwhile, Agriculturalist Anwar Hossain, assistant director of Rangpur DAE (Department of Agricultural Extension), said that due to severe winter and especially thick fog, paddy seed beds and potato fields are being damaged.
However, field workers are giving necessary advice to farmers to protect their fields from fog.
