Update : 22 Jan 2024, 10:41 PM

Primary and secondary schools in the northern district of Dinajpur have been declared closed for two days due to severe cold.

The schools will remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This announcement was made by the Dinajpur District Education Officer on Monday as the local meteorological department recorded at 8.1°C temperature on Monday morning for the second time.

There is bone-chilling wind in the region as it is quite close to Darjeeling.

On January 16, DSHE issued a circular saying that the education authorities in any district can close down schools in case the temperature drops below 10°C.

However, the Dinajpur District Education Officer did not announce the closure of the school earlier despite the mercury dropping below 10°C .

Classes were held at several schools in Dinajpur. So the students had to come to class amid a bone-chilling cold.

The DEO told the journalists that the education of students has been disrupted due to the pandemic before. That is why he did not announce the closure of the school.

Dinajpur Meteorological Observatory In-charge Asaduzzaman Asad said that the temperature would drop soon due to a cold wave with light rain in the district.
