Another truck was recovered by navy, fire service, and Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) divers on Sunday although the sunken ferry Rajanigandha has not yet been salvaged.
With this recovery, four out of nine vehicles have been recovered.
Md Abdul Hamid, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Manikganj, said: "A truck and a covered van were recovered on Wednesday, but no vehicles were recovered on Friday and Saturday."
"Divers are working to rescue the remaining five trucks," he added.
Navy, fire service and BIWTA divers started the rescue operation at 11am on Sunday.
Shah Mohammad Khaled Nawaz, regional deputy general manager of the BIWTC in Aricha, said: “The rescue ship Prattay began its operation for the fifth day. Hoping Prattay can make the ferry visible. Heavy fog is hampering the rescue operation. The sunken ferry is under 40-50 feet of water. A wire rope has been placed on one side of the ferry. The other side will be hooked.”
Meanwhile, another rescue ship Jhinau-1 was on its way to rescue Rajanigandha. It will determine the position of the ferry and vehicles in the river.
However, on Sunday morning, Nawaz said he could not confirm when Jhinau-1 will arrive.
Rescue vessels Hamza and Rustam could not rescue the ferry.
Lieutenant Shah Paran Emon, head of the navy's diving team, said over 50 divers of the navy's diving team, fire service and BIWTA are working with conviction. A large wire rope is attached to the overhead crane on one side to the bottom of the ferry. On the other side, an attempt will be made to make the ferry float by adding wire rope.
“It is very cold and foggy and it is not possible to stay in the water for long. We are trying our best,” he added.
The ferry named Rajnigandha-7 sank near Paturia ghat with nine vehicles around 8am on Wednesday. Two investigation committees comprising the district administration and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority-BIWTA are working to investigate the cause of the ferry sinking. The committee is expected to submit its investigation report within seven working days.
Humayun Kabir, the second master of Rajnigandha, went missing in this incident. BIWTC officials believe that he is trapped in the sunken ferry.
