Gunfight between two local groups in Rangamati sparks panic

A massive exchange of fire reportedly ensued between two regional organizations at Durgam Gainda Union and Bangalhalia Agapara in Rangamati on Saturday morning.

However, no casualty was immediately reported. Since the incident, there is panic among the locals in the area.

Chandraghona police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Ansarul Karim confirmed the incident and said that in the morning there was an exchange of fire between the two regional groups for a couple of hours.

Around 1,000 rounds of fire are believed to have been exchanged between the two sides.

He said: “As far as I know, these shootings took place between the JSS Santu Larma-led (JLA) and the Marma National Part (MNP). It has not yet been possible to go to the spot.”

However, there was no comment from the two regional organizations on this issue.
