A 65-year-old woman who suffered burn injuries while trying to stay warm by igniting bonfires died in the burn unit of Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Amena Begum, hailing from the Gopal village of the Pirgacha upazila in Rangpur.
Marufa, the granddaughter of the deceased informed that she succumbed to burn injuries when her clothes caught fire accidentally to stave off the cold.
Rangpur Medical College Hospital Director Dr AM Akhtaruzzaman said that Amena Begum was admitted with 70% burn injuries on her body including her respiratory tract.
Currently, 12 such patients are being treated at the burn unit of RMCH. Of them, three are in critical condition.
