Seven people were injured in a clash between supporters of Awami League candidate Muhibur Rahman Muhib and independent candidate and Awami League leader Mahbubur Rahman Talukder of Patuakhali-4 constituency at Bortakia village in Kolapara upazila on Friday evening.
The injured, including Mahipur thana Chhatra League President Shoaib Khan, were admitted to different hospitals.
Quoting locals, police said the supporters of the “boat” symbol were on their way to the neighbouring Chapli Bazar playing a sound box as part of election campaign.
At that time, the supporters of the independent candidate started playing Hindi songs on another sound box.
Both sides locked into an altercation over the matter, leading to a clash.
Mahipur police station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain Talukder said the situation was under control. No complaint has been received yet in this regard so far, he said.
