Panchagarh shivers as temperatures hover around 10°C

  • Temperature 9.6°C at 9am on Thursday
  • Being close to Himalayas, winter comes early in Panchagarh

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has recorded temperatures below 11°C in Panchagarh since December 16.

The northern district recorded a temperature of 9.6°C at 9am on Thursday.

The lowest temperature in the district was 10.1°C on Wednesday, Rasel Shah, the person in charge of the BMD’s Tetulia office, confirmed.

According to the weather data, the temperature has been around 10°C since December 16. 

The lowest temperature was at 9.5°C on Tuesday, 9.7°C on Monday, 10°C on Sunday and 9.4°C on Saturday.

The highest temperature is between 25°C and 27°C during the day. 

This northern town shivers in winter every year. Being close to the Himalayas, winter comes early in Panchagarh. People in the district experience bone-chilling cold during the winter. 

"Every year, Panchagarh experiences an unprecedented increase in the severity of the cold season. This time also with the increase in severity of winter, we have started distribution of winter clothes on behalf of the administration,” said Deputy Commissioner Zahurul Islam.  

A demand letter has been sent to the ministry concerned for winter clothes. These winter clothes are being distributed among the poor and helpless, said the DC.

The weather may remain dry with partly cloudy skies over the country, according to the met office. 

Light to moderate fog may occur at places over the river basins of the country from late night till morning.

Night temperature may rise slightly and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
