A team of the police’s Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) has arrested a suspected active member of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in Badarganj upazila in Rangpur.
Md Shariful Alam, additional police superintendent of ATU Rangpur division, confirmed the matter.
The arrestee is Ariful Islam alias Arif, son of Abul Kalam, resident of Kusumba union in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat. He is accused in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on September 23.
He had been absconding since the case was filed, said the police official.
Acting on a tip-off, the ATU conducted a drive in Lohanipara village of Badarganj upazila on Wednesday and arrested him at the house of Mohaiminul Ripon of the village.
“Legal action is being taken against him,” said Md Shariful Islam.
