While the sun fights back in the capital, winter's icy grip has tightened across Bangladesh. The Meteorological Department warned that there would be a slight decrease in nightly temperature.

Meteorologist Tariful Newaz said temperature has fallen below 10°C in Panchagarh district. Even though the night temperature may drop a little further, it is still impossible to determine whether a cold wave is going on.

He said a final decision on the cold wave could be taken on Sunday. However, there are concerns that the temperature will drop further in several areas on Sunday.

The country's lowest temperature was recorded at 9.4°C in Tetulia in the last 24 hours.

Apart from this, the mercury dropped to 11.4°C in Sreemangal, 11.5°C in Rajarhat, 12°C in Chuadanga, Sitakunda, Syedpur, Badalgachi and Ishwardi, 12.2°C in Dinajpur, 12.5°C in Jessore, Comilla, Dimla and Rajshahi, 12.6°C in Feni, 12.4°C in Gopalganj, Barisal, and Nikli recorded 12.8°C.

According to the Meteorological Department,  ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.

The forecast for the next 24 hours shows that the weather over the country may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies. Moderate to thick fog may occur over the northern part & riverbasins of the country and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning.

Night temperature may fall slightly and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
