Police have filed two cases in connection with an attack on police officials in Chittagong's Anwara upazila during the BNP's blockade on Wednesday.
A total of 37 BNP leaders and activists were named in the case other than over 100 unidentified people.
Local Chatari Union Parishad Member Rashed Newaz Chowdhury and Sub-Inspector Md Joynal Abedin filed the cases at Anwara police station.
Since the filing of the case, the police had arrested five BNP leaders and activists in different places in Chittagong till Thursday night.
The arrestees are Md Imtiaz, Md Rubel, Abul Manjur, Md Maruf Hossain and Md Jibon.
According to the case statements, the police stopped BNP and Jubo Dal activists when they tried to block a road by holding a procession supporting the blockade on Wednesday noon, leading to a clash between the police and BNP leaders and activists.
Anwara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohel Ahmed was seriously injured in his eye during the clash. Five other policemen were also injured. Several vehicles, including a police pickup, were also vandalized.
