At least four policemen, including the Anwara police station Officer-in-Charge Sohel Ahmed, were injured when brickbats were hurled at police from a procession of Jubo Dal in support of the ongoing blockade at Anwara upazila in Chittagong.
The injured are the station's OC Sohel Ahmed, OC (investigation) Mohammad Mohiuddin and two constables.
The incident took place around 1pm on Wednesday.
Anwara police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kawsar Hossain said: “A procession by the BNP in support of a blockade led to vandalism and obstruction of vehicles. When the police intervened, the protestors threw brickbats at them. This resulted in injuries to four police officers.”
The police fired eight rounds to control the situation and detained one individual in connection with these events.
"The Anwara police station OC was brought to the hospital in a critical state. He had an injury to his eye. Later, for better treatment, he was transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital," he added.
